My name is O'Nkosi Erick Fungo. I was born and raised as a performing artist in Tanzania, East Africa. Growing up hyperactive, my parents supported my passion and sent me to the College of Performing Arts in Bagamoyo, where I earned the equivalent of an Associate Degree and became a certified Teaching and Performing Artist.
After graduation, I worked with Parapanda Arts teaching underprivileged youth in Dar Es Salaam (1997-2000) before moving to the U.S. for higher education. I eventually landed in New York City, where the African Poetry Theater became my home and sponsor. That's where O'Nkosi Productions was born—teaching African culture classes that grew into performances, workshops, and shows across NYC for nearly 11 years. We did a lot of volunteer work supporting community organizations, fundraisers, and youth programs, paid or not.
From New York I had a two years tour contract that ended in Las Vegas. I took a break in Las Vegas and decided instead of going back to New York I decided to settle here in Utah. That was 2019. One year later, in 2020, the pandemic hit and shut everything down—schools, theaters, grants, all of it. I had to pivot hard, taking regular jobs just to survive. Even after things reopened in 2022, the world had reset. People weren't seeking live entertainment the same way anymore. The performing arts market changed forever.
Now I'm creating digital products to raise funds so I can return to what I love most: teaching arts, performing, and helping young people stay engaged in meaningful, creative activities. I'm also building a free online platform for edutainment, talent showcasing, and community connection—a space where people can come together. My bigger vision? Free dance contests, youth boxing events (I've got students here already), and shows accessible to everyone—whether they can afford to pay or not.
